Construction Paper FADES!

Have you ever noticed how quickly and extremely the construction paper masterpieces that are brought home from school fade into grays and tans? A beautiful orange sun becomes a sad light peach ball in just a few months unless they are kept in total darkness -- and who wants to hide those creations away for decades? The process we use can never compensate for the inexpensive, acidic papers that are used by schools -- but we can slow that aging process down dramatically, allowing the art to be enjoyed in the meantime. :)

New Size of Doodleboards! Scrapbookers, take notice!

Big Art Blessings is excited to be adding a new size of Doodleboards! We are now offering 12x12" panels, which should be a great opportunity for all our special scrapbook pages to be showcased. :) This Doodleboard displays a wonderful cheetah created by our friend James when he was in 5th grade at Gwin Elementary.

Fall is in the Air!

There is that intangible feeling of Autumn outside today! Football season, back to school, and the start of that roller coaster that goes Labor Day-Halloween-Thanksgiving-CHRISTMAS! Big Art Blessings can help you with that one special, perfect Christmas gift this year. Now is the time to get that art together! :)

One of the highlights of the Fall Season here in the Birmingham, Alabama area is the Moss Rock Festival -- We have been invited to have a booth there this year! If you are in the area, please come visit our booth -- The festival is held in the beautiful Moss Rock Preserve, free to the public, very family friendly... you will be in store for great music, good food, a wonderful place for the kids to run and play, and especially many artists and ideas you don't want to miss! Some clients love to have their art grouped by years.  Other clients love to showcase their favorite, special pieces of art from many different years.  Lacey's art spans more than a decade, and it will always mean a lot to her and her family to see her spectacular giraffe and wonderful flamingo alongside her preschool handprints and sweet lady reindeer.  This is a great example of how Lacey's mom's persistence in saving all her favorite pieces all those years has now paid off with a showcase piece they treasure in their home.

Big Art Blessings is ready for a busy fall season! After a wild summer of kids home, island visits, home remodeling because of a flood, costume designing for a wonderful stage production of Beauty and the Beast, we are grateful to be back full time! Yesterday, it was very gratifying to see our collages on the walls of the local hospital we have been working with... the employees should be so proud of themselves for raising the money to brighten the rooms, having their kids and their communities submit artwork, and leading the effort to make the atmosphere cheery and fun. The collages looked great on the walls! Pictures coming soon. Now, back to business....

When collages come to life!

We've been updating our website lately, and it just became clear: the magic of the collages starts when you hang them on the wall. They literally come to life! The gallery pictures of the collages don't do them justice. We've heard that many times from clients! Now that the hospital collages are being hung they are finding that to be true too.

Two kids, One collage

We recently had the pleasure to work with artwork from a brother/sister team! Maimie and John David created beautiful, colorful art with lots of handprints... many fun nature-inspired pieces, with caterpillars and butterflies galore. Combining their art onto one collage worked fabulously! Thanks, Maimie and John David, for sharing your talent with everyone!

Collages, collages everywhere!

What an experience to tackle a large order of collages at one time! If this keeps up, we will need to realize our dream of moving out of our home-based facility and into a big place! In the meantime, be careful where you step.... :)

Taking the show on the road

Are there child labor laws on Dauphin Island? I hope not, because Nick put in some time yesterday getting the art panels smooth as a baby's bottom! I guess a beach vacation is appropriate payment. We brought a load of collage panels to the island to prep, in between exploring, fishing, and visiting the local alligator. Now we are thinking there should be a Big Art Blessings/Dauphin Island office!

Brook and Austin's collages

We just delivered collages to O'Hair, the best place in Hoover to get your hair done! These went to Missy, the proud mom of Brook and Austin. Their collages were great examples of how the personalities of the kids shines through their artwork. :) Austin's has a great Grateful Dead-ish Guitar Hero guy on it, along with a hammerhead shark and a love letter to Mom! Brook's collage has the curliest, swirliest, girliest Raggedy Ann ever made, created with cursive words. Both Austin and Brook are talented artists! They have enough art for many more collages. :)
